Obviously a cigar lighter is a mechanical device, so there are a few simple maintenance tasks you can perform to keep your lighter working perfectly and to give it a long life.
Bleeding and Filling your cigar lighter
1. Bleed the lighter each time you refill it.
2. Release all tank pressure by pressing on the inlet valve with a small screwdriver or similar tool. Hold the lighter upside down while bleeding the valve and repeat until all fuel/gas pressure is released from the lighter.
3. Holding the lighter upside down, insert the butane tank tip directly into the fuel valve. Press down firmly for about 5 seconds.
4. Before igniting the lighter, wait 3-4 minutes for excess butane to evaporate and for the butane inside the cigar lighter to reach room temperature.
5. Set the lighter flame level to your desired height by turning the flame adjuster wheel.
If you don't use your lighter on a regular basis, we recommend you periodically (roughly every three months) perform a few, simple maintenance procedures:
1) To clear obstructions such as dirt or dust, blow a burst of air into the ignition valve. You can use a compressed gas computer cleaner product such as Dust-Off available from office supply stores.
2) Drain the lighter fuel tank as described above, then refill the gas tank.
3) After draining and refilling the gas tank, ignite the flame several times at different setting levels of flame height adjuster.
If the lighter is used regularly, all the lighter parts maintain their effectiveness. Lighters are susceptible to mechanical malfunction if they are not used for a long period of time.
Cigar Lighter Troubleshooting
Problem: Lighter will not light
Possible Cause: Empty fuel tank, low setting on flame adjuster.
Solution: Refill lighter or set flame height adjuster higher.
Problem: Flame jumps
Possible Cause: Air in lighter fuel tank
Solution: Remove air from by bleeding lighters fuel tank.
Problem: Lighter makes hissing sound
Possible Cause: Fuel tank leaks, or flame height is too high.
Solution: Set flame height adjuster lower.
Of course always keep your lighter out of the reach of children and away from all open flame sources. |
